Apple iPhone Store Credit
It’s now up and running, but apparently unannounced. “If you bought your iPhone before August 22, you may be eligible for an instant $100 electronic credit toward the purchase of products at the Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. See the terms and conditions below for more details. To receive your credit, follow these three easy…” (via Christopher’s...

Carolwood Pacific Model Railroad
I know this is not WDW related, but those of you who are Disney freaks, Railroad freaks or both, will find this exciting. Bachman industries, makers of model railroad products, released an HO train set replicating Walt’s Carolwood Pacific live steam train that he built on his property. It is hard to come by, but I picked up a set at a local train show last weekend in Edison, NJ, with my...

Brands
reflexive_voyager has added a photo to the pool: Nikon, Apple, Starbucks - need one say more? Apple: I am starting to use iWorks seriously now. It really is a hidden gem of an app. - a lot more powerful and flexible than it is given credit for. Starbucks: I wrote my Masters thesis when I was in Berkeley in a Starbucks. It worked better than a library! ;-) Nikon: Just got into digital...

Cleverboy discovers ultimate ringtone hack
Filed under: Hacks, How-tos, iTunes, iPhone Hacker par excellence Cleverboy, aka Dudley, has pretty much figured out what makes ringtones ringtones as far as iTunes is concerned. He discovered an atom in the m4a metadata that identifies the file’s role. He downloaded a copy of AtomicParsley, the command-line metadata editor, and after a bit of hacking discovered that setting the...

BotLog #1
2007-0909 - Starting at the beginning [Hint, for those less interested in tech stuff just hang on….]  Baby steps today with the BOE Bot. I did the basic unboxing and preliminary setup which got me through Chapter 1 of the accompanying manual/lesson guide. Accomplished: * Installed the software into my emulated Windows partition on my Macbook. * Assembled the BASIC stamp microcontroller into...

Apparently hated by Microsoft AND Apple.
Those who know me fairly well know I’ve got a strong geek-hate for Microsoft. That’s not new. The exception to his has been my appreciation for the Xbox 360 console and Live service. This is one thing I though MS did an awesome job on. Until now. A couple of months ago I sent in my 360 for the dreaded Red Ring of Death issue and now the replacement is experiencing the same problem....

Disney-themed USB keys lock kids into childish...
Filed under: Storage While we’ve seen USB-based peripherals that aim to keep your youngsters in a safe and innocent PC environment, Bandai and Buffalo have teamed up to make kid-friendly computing a bit more bearable. The duo has crafted a unique USB key, which is slated to be available in Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh versions, that simultaneously locks the PC into “Kid...

Xbox 360 Chatpad and headset hands-on, impressions
Filed under: Features, Gaming, Peripherals So we snagged ourselves an Xbox 360 Messenger Kit (aka Chatpad + Chatpad headset), unboxed the hell out of it, and here’s what we think: Blister packs suck. Microsoft, we’re sick of ‘em. The Chatpad is a little difficult to get on and off, but once engaged it fits perfectly on the controller (duh), and feels like a seamless...

Build your own underwater ROV for $250
Filed under: Digital Cameras, Robots Granted, this here project isn’t nearly as inexpensive as the $100 underwater ROV from years back, but at least this one is propelled by something a bit more advanced than a pull string. Regardless, the ROV-in-a-Box Project Kit — created by folks from Carl Hayden High School for use in the National Underwater Robotics Challenge — is a $249.95...

EPCOT to revive old logo!
Taken from Screamscape: Quote: (9/4/07) Screamscape has heard that Walt Disney World management has announced to Cast Members that with the removal of the new style Epcot logo from the top of Spaceship Earth, the park will return to using the classic EPCOT Center logo that was retired just before the start of the new Millennium. Suddenly all the reports from the past two weeks...

I may adopt this method rather than flatbed scanning all these 110 negatives I have. I figure it’s got to be at least as good but quite a bit faster.

Self-Introspecting Robot Learns to Walk
StCredZero writes “There’s something about these things that seems eerily alive! The Starfish Robot reminds me of the Grid Bugs from Tron. But it’s very real, and apparently capable of self introspection. In fact, instead of being explicitly coded, it teaches itself how to walk, and it can even learn how to compensate for damage.” Read more of this story at Slashdot. (via...

Original Macintosh User Manual with Pictures.
Thoughts on (and pics of) the original Macintosh User Manual… One of the more striking things was how every chapter is introduced with a full-color photo of Macintosh being used. Here they are (click on them to see bigger sizes)… (via Christopher’s shared items in Google Reader)
